Johann Bessler Videos

I’ve have added one or two videos to this blog because I think they are informative and interesting  .... and one of them is mine!

I am also a fan of Valeriy Ivanov’s work, the man behind the Visual Education Projects who produces videos of apparently working versions of many hypothetical perpetual motion machines.  Each are beautifully demonstrated with perfect models, but which are discretely driven by hidden motors.  You can see his work here.

A few years ago, I was invited to be interviewed in Rome for RAI TV for a documentary about Johann Bessler, but although I was interviewed at length, most of my contribution was cut and my remaining words dubbed in Italian.  The main object of the film was to introduce various ‘experts’ who dismissed my point of view and suggested that Bessler was a fraud, not too surprising given the long established view of majority.  Here’s a link to the video.

There are many other videos which I could link to, but these are some that I like. I have not linked to any simulations here, partly because there are so many, but also because none of them prove anything, other than a particular design concept doesn’t work.  Simulations are popular, and I’m told they can save much time in constructing mechanisms and testing them, but for me they remove the intense personal hands-on experience and intuitive understanding which can only be gained by building everything with your hands.

If anyone can point to an interesting video of Bessler’s wheel maybe showing interesting mechanisms, I might be inclined to add it to this blog.

I have been working on deciphering and interpreting Bessler’s codes and hints for several years, but no working wheel yet.  During this journey I have frequently put together a mechanism I ‘got’ from Bessler and it failed but just by moving it by hand and making alterations I learned stuff which would never have occurred to me if I just relied on sims, with the result that I have the whole design concept in construction right now.  I use pencil and paper to work out an arrangement and then I  build it. Having a build right in front of you gives you the opportunity to make alterations, both minor or major and leads towards deeper understanding.

As for my own reconstruction, I’m ploughing on with it, slowly but surely and I’m still aiming for completion in September, only four weeks.

    We are all most eagerly awaiting your ultimate revelation, John, and wishing you total success with it. If you are right, but cannot successfully complete the construction yourself, then others will come in first making sims that shows it works and then with actual builds that work!

    1. FWEIW, A falling weight can never be used to drive a gravity wheel. There isn't any way, to lift it back up, and get any thing out of it. This has been a sticking point for scientist the world over. And what's more they are right. That's why, only pendulums will work. Because; they are never lowered and never fall down. Consequently, they never have to be lifted back up! This has to be the secret to Bessler's wheel(s)-----------------------------Sam

      Apparently Bessler figured a way around that "slight" problem. His wheels must have needed less energy to lift the weights back up then they released when they fell again. There's got to be a way to do it otherwise he was one of the greatest fraudsters in history!

  4. 00:36 How can I explain it? Let me take another stab at it. I should have said, a weight shifting with respect to the wheel moving radial outward, driving the wheel down, then at or near the bottom, trying to lift it back up, some how; this is the thing that can't work.
    Yes, I agree. He, Bessler, did figured a way around the problem by using pendulums. So, I say again, sense the pendulums never fall down, with respect to the wheel, they don't have to be lifted back up!
    However they do have to swing out, (on the down side), and LOCK to the wheel. They do fall with respect to the earth, but not to the wheel. Then at bottom dead center, they release and return to the 12:00 position----------------------Sam

Hi John- Just came across your blog as doing my first research into Bessler - your research is daunting- I wonder if he would have produced engineering/draughtsmen tools at sometime - I can see he was skilled and practical - I have a reason for the question but cant find a means to contact you.

    1. Gravittea!! Thanks for your response. The pendulums circumvent the giant problem, you might say the insurmountable problem, of returning weights back up to 12:00. Also the pendulums can't just swing out, they have to lock to the wheel temperately, (rotate down with the wheel), then release at the bottom. I solved this problem with a one way clutch. At first I didn't think it would work but I tried an old bicycle clutch to verify it, which worked fine.

      The remaining problem left to solve is how to swing them out at @ 1:00. So far it's not working but, not for the lack of trying; have to run----------------Sam

    2. FWEIW, If the pendulums flip up and out. the wheel will turn. I realized today what I'm doing wrong. I've been trying to swing them out, more or less parallel with the ground. I'm thinking ideally, they should flip up more like 180 degrees, like a spoke on a wheel, then lock to the wheel and rotate down---------------------Sam

  8. Gravittea, if you decide to go with pendulums; McMaster-Carr has the one-way clutches, that you will need. I use a split shaft collars to clamp on to them. Then the pend. can fasten to the collar.

  10. Update. My gut's prediction made months ago was that, by the beginning of this October, we'd have close to 200,000 COVID-19 deaths in the US. Sadly it's turned out to be accurate as usual with the most recent death figure reported as 191,151. Now I just saw that there's a highly reliable university computer model used by the federal government that's predicting that unless Americans start finally ALL getting serious about masking up and social distancing, then we can expect the death toll to be around 410,000 by the beginning of next year! That's equal to all of the US military deaths in WWII which required almost four years of bloody combat. And it probably won't end there. By the middle of next year, the death toll could reach around 620,000 which equals all American deaths in the US Civil War of the 19th century and close to the 675,000 killed by the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918.

    There's some talk about a vaccine against the virus that is being developed at "warp speed" by US' "Big Pharma". Many experts are doubting this can be done, though. A recent poll says about 1 in 3 Americans won't be taking the vaccine if it's available because they either don't trust vaccines in general or the safety of this vaccine in particular which is being rushed into production.

    A lot of states are trying to order their public schools to reopen either fully or partially so their students can get the benefits of "in person" teaching. The WHO says that should not be done unless the local school district's "positivity rate" for the virus in the samples of people's blood they are randomly testing is 5% or less if the schools want to provide their students with maximum protection. Many of the school districts are being ordered to reopen with local positivity rates of 20% to 30%!

    What's incredible about the pandemic situation in the US is that many people are still getting the message, even from their political leaders, that COVID-19 is no big deal and will soon go away. We all heard that fantasy back in March when there were only around a thousand or so deaths. We're still getting that same message along with the one that masks aren't really that necessary. The reality is that the nurses working in hospitals with COVID-19 patients actually have one of the lowest rates of infection. Reason? They WEAR their masks! Masks work and cut the transmission rate down to about 20% of what it would be without a mask. No, they are not perfect, but they are really the only thing that we have now to protect ourselves and others from infection.

    For every 100 people who become infected, about 80 can recover at home, about 20 will be sick enough to be hospitalized and of them maybe one or two will die on a ventilator. That means that the other 18 will make a quick and full recovery, right? No! It turns out that many of those who survive the worst of the infection can have chronic health problems that linger on for months afterward such as kidney damage, bowel and heart inflammation, and most recently even glaucoma which affects vision. People need to start realizing that COVID-19 isn't just another seasonal flu that comes and goes. Currently, it's the 3rd leading cause of death in the US right behind cancer and heart disease and at the rate it's going, it could eventually wind up being the #2 or even #1 cause of death.

    This is the Labor Day weekend holiday in the US and people will be getting together for backyard barbecues and parties. Many will be ignoring their masks and social distancing. Expect to see a BIG spike in new cases and deaths about a week or two from now!

    1. Thanks for your latest update AAPOI. Those numbers you give are truly chilling. We can only hope that they come up with a vaccine that actually works and is safe. I don't like or trust vaccines either but if we don't get this damn virus under control our economy may never recover. We could become like one of those African poverty case countries that are almost completely dependent on foreign aid for survival. Maybe if that happens the Chinese will feel sorry for us and send us any extra rice they have to keep us all from starving? We better be nice them.

    2. I did make a sim of the wheel whisperer wheel and it can't be made to run as shown even after many changes to its weighs and springs. Looks like it was an attempt to make a five lever version of mt13 and then make it work by adding some springs which is probably where he got the idea for it. Too bad for the friend of JC who got ripped off by that scamming creep. If he had someone sim the design for him first he wouldn't have sent him even a penny. I'm sure he won't make that mistake again.

    J'ai construis deux modules de ces mécanismes et les ai monté sur pivot en opposition pour voir leur comportement.
    le mécanisme qui étire le ciseau déclenche à 15° au dessus de l'horizontale.
    le mécanisme qui rétracte le ciseau déclenche en opposé à 15°sous l'horizontale.
    reporté graphiquement cela nous donne une impossibilité d'équilibre.

      They are a total waste of time that never works. IIRC, JC was even dabbling with his own version years ago that was just another nonrunner. Bessler does mention in MT there was "something special" about scissor mechanisms, but it probably had nothing to do with his final working pm wheel design. Just another dead end approach. Don't waste your time on them.

    4. Anon 20:18 sounds like a scissor wheel fan. If he's actually a builder type that means he will be learning his lesson the hard way about how useless that approach really is. Failed scissor wheels have probably knocked more pm chasers out of the chase than anything else except maybe disability and death.

  14. I agree, i have built a number of scissors with CNC and aluminum and they just take so much power I just have a hard time believing it is a primary element of the functioning wheel.

    J'ai construis le moyeu, les flasques et et l'indice B, ainsi que le portique.
    Il me reste à fabriquer les huit modules à ciseaux, ce serra plus long.
    Les modules sont composés de l'indice E avec 5 éléments suivant indice A, combiné avec les indices C et D.
    Il y a 5 poids pour actionner le ciseau et un poids satellitaires en bout de l'ensemble.

    Gravittea a raison de signaler le problème des ciseaux ayant des forces qui se neutralisent.

How surprised he will be to discover that the cog of the 8 "satellite" weights in his wheel's 8 "scissor modules" is exactly as far from the center his wheel's axle as the cog of the 40 weights needed to shift them around is on the opposite side of the axle's center. When you add the two cog's together you get a combined cog that is located right under the center of the axle. Result? No torque! However, let him have his fun. As Bessler said in AP, "...one has to learn through bitter experience." Many of the EX-scissor mech wheel builders out there are still trying to get the bitter taste of the experience out of their mouths that built up there over several years of wasted effort.

    4. A few points that may be worth correcting JC.
      "L'indice" means the clue, the indication indicater.
      les "cisseaux" is as in cisseaux de cuisine, kitchen scissors, and not cisseau a bois, wood chisel.
      "ce serra plus long" means this will be longer, as in, take more time.

  17. Don't discount scissors movement outright. In M.T. 25, you see in 3rd quadrant(clockwise wheel) the scissor action of the compound levers ,easier seen at Bessler Wheel Quest. As the scissor closes,the primary weight suddenly flies upward but not fighting gravity because it is "Jerked " up (see JERK PHYSICS) by the falling shifter weight in quad. #one. This is similar to M.T. 138, sketch E.

    1. On your site for the figure labeled "Drawing 2: Springs Needed", you wrote:

However, when the cross is replaced by a single crossbar, having two compound levers, two shifter weights and two primary weights acting in pairs, momentary torque is produced twice for each cycle."

      That sounds nice, but what is happening between those two "momentary" torques per cycle? Does the torque drop to zero or does it just become negative in direction and cancel out any momentum delivered by the two momentary torques in the driving direction which is exactly what Newton's 3rd Law of Motion predicts MUST happen?

      A lot of pm wheel chasers focus on what little positive torques they get as they turn a wheel slowly by hand and ignore the negative torques. But when a real wheel is released, the sum of the torques it gets from ALL of its mechanisms at any moment is what really counts. If, overall, there is no net torque per wheel rotation, then the design will not work. Maybe instead of just posting static drawings and hoping it might somehow work, you should try simulating the design to find out if it actually will work? Learning to use some of the free and simple sim programs on the web (often intended for use by kids!) is not that hard to do. It's amazing how much wasted time and effort they can save a pm wheel chaser.
