The Bessler-Orffyreus Perpetual Motion Device.

I cringe with embarrassment when I read my confident predictions about a my expected success in replicating Bessler’s wheel, going right back at the beginning of this blog - more than nine years ago!  Now aged 80 years, I still feel confident of success but no predictions this time.

All I have to go on is my personal conviction that Bessler’s spoke the truth when he claimed to have designed and built a continuously rotating wheel, driven by nothing but gravity.  I have always dismissed the statement that such devices conflict with the laws of energy; they don’t, or at least this one didn’t, and we know why. Leaving aside that so-called law, the evidence that the inventor was genuine is so compelling that some highly reputable scientists who have read my biography of Bessler are convinced too.  But, they ask, how did he do it?

That question has haunted me since I first encountered the legend of Bessler’s wheel.  According to historic documents the wheel was verified as genuine by a man of impeccable reputation, who made it a condition of his patronage that he must be permitted to examine the internal workings of the wheel.  This was agreed and published his verification.  In addition the only piece of evidence offered as proof of Bessler’s fraudulence, was a document signed by his erstwhile maid or housekeeper.  Her description of how the wheel was made to rotate continuously night and day is so full of holes and actually impossible, that the only claim against the reality of Bessler’s wheel, is the invalid statement that perpetual motion machines such as Bessler’s are impossible.

I have been determined to solve this mystery ever since I learned of it, aged 15, and I’ve spent most of my spare time engrossed in discovering the secret.  I have ignored the scoffers, the scorners and the detractors.  I know what I know and I also know the answer is there in his books.

People ask me why I haven’t solved it if it’s so simple?  What about all the clues, are they real or am I deluding myself?  No it’s all real and will eventually be proved.  I have come to know Bessler and the way his mind worked and it is obvious when you read his books at the pain and misery he endured at the actions of three men he called “his enemies”.  He gained a temporary peace from their actions when his patron, Karl the Landgrave of Hesse ordered them to cease their defamatory actions or face the consequences.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to discover the exact configuration of his machine is to build and build.  BUT a vital ingredient is to not ignore any clues no matter how off the wall they may seem.  Bessler adept at offering clues which look right but lead you up the wrong path.  I have spent years studying his clues and discovered many of them can be read differently but also he often offers two ways to get to the right answer.  When both ways agree, then you know it’s the right one.

The only acceptable proof would be a working model, and that is what I’m trying to achieve.

    1. Several months? It was more like a year! IIRC, the last "normal" blog here with comments was back in April of LAST year.

    2. Yes at least a year. My question is why did he destroy this once great blog??? Makes no sense to me.

  3. I thought this blog was permanently defunct. Nice to see it back again since, imo, it was one of the best on the net. So, you failed to find a solution after 65 years. So what? There's probably people out there who failed after trying for 80 years. Maybe you're closer than they ever were.

  4. Thank you for the kind words. I promised myself I wouldn’t make any more predictions of success! But watch this space…..just in case 👍

  5. Hi John. Have you calculated the total COM of your wheel through rotation yet? If not, why? Thanks, Justsomeone

    1. Hi jso. I haven’t done that and probably won’t because I simply want a working replica of Bessler’s wheel. I’m convinced that I know how it worked and the more I build the closer to complete understanding I get. I’m reluctant to make any more predictions until I’ve completed all the mechanisms and got them working according to the design I have. I’ve ruled out describing it because in my experience, only a working model will convince

I feel the same , also things have changed so much with digital media , today you cant even trust a video with all the fakers out there on the web with their fake doctored videos etc , and so many people who blindly believe every new fake video they encounter (not that its wrong for someone to not understand physics) , and then we have A.I becoming extremely good at producing fake content too.

Going the "convincing people while keeping it a secret" like Bessler tried doing , would even be harder to do today with all the faking going on out there.

My guess is , if i came out tomorrow with a claim of having a working device and a video , i would likely be called a faker in an instant , unless people could actually reproduce it too.

So imo i think reproducibility would be a convincing factor , as other who would reproduce the effect/result would be able to vouch for it.

And if you think about it , reproducibility is kind of the scientific method in a nutshell .

    3. Thanks JB.

For me the problem is slightly different. I have no intention of trying to patent it or even try for copyright protection, because my books will be published by a publisher and they may need rewriting but I can earn a bit from them.

I have been in contact with at least three well-known people who are happy to verify a working model subject to examination of the interior parts. This idea I took from Bessler!

The model I’m working on is small and fairly crude and if it doesn’t work it will be due to my poor skills. It is more complex than we might have been led to believe, but the concept is simple and readily understood as soon as it’s explained.

I might have to video it showing how it’s meant to work, just to explain what is meant happen.

    4. Almost anyone who has never seen a lever could be practically shown and taught to use a lever in a few moments time , since it is so simple to demonstrate and apply , but not everyone would be able to explain or understand it on a theoretical level .

In this sort of research there would be the practical and theoretical side too , however its a chicken or egg situation , when something has to be designed/invented for a problem which there is no known solution.

It is usually in hindsight though , after immense time and effort spend on creating a solution , that observers decide its simple - since they only have to observe the final result and did not have to partake in creating the solution.

If i were to Imagine myself in the shoes of Karl , about to observe something that is said to be impossible , i would expect the vail to drop and expose something highly complicated and on the verge of understanding since it must taken some impossible genius to overcome "that which is said to be impossible" , and then when the vail finally drops - it appears to be simpler than expected , i think there might have been a fair amount of expectation involved in Karl's viewing.

  6. Bessler was born in 1680 , i was born in 1980 , in 1712 Bessler achieved his discovery and 2025 - 1712 = 313 (300 + 13 = 313) mt 13 is a mirrored print (E1) and so is 313 31|13, the code for Bessler pseudonym is 13 letters apart , Bessler died in 1745 the wheel ran for 54 days , I turned 45 on 2025/05 with 3 5's and 45 is half John's age + 5 and 54 is also the mirror of 45 .

This was posted on 17:17 , If i did not know any better the universe was trying to tell me something.

    2. SPOOKY! Thanks WJB. When you know some of hidden information I’ve discovered you will be even more excited. Quick vague clue. Why did Bessler add the name Johann to his forenames?

They are just coincidences, but you focusing on them is an indication that you could be more delusional than ever. Delusions will lead you nowhere (as usual). Only reality will lead you to success.
