The Legend of Bessler’s Perpetual Motion Machine

Please feel free to comment if you wish and I will try to check back daily. So here it is again,

  The Legend of Bessler's wheel.

On 6th June, 1712, in Germany, Johann Bessler (also known by his pseudonym, Orffyreus) announced that after many years of failure, he had succeeded in designing and building a perpetual motion machine. For more than fourteen years he exhibited his machine and allowed people to thoroughly examine it. Following advice from the famous scientist, Gottfried Leibniz, who was able to examine the device, he devised a number of demonstrations and tests designed to prove the validity of his machine without giving away the secret of its design.

Karl the Landgrave of Hesse permitted Bessler to live, work and exhibit his machine at the prince's castle of Weissenstein. Karl was a man of unimpeachable reputation and he insisted on being allowed to verify the inventor's claims before he allowed Bessler to take up residence. This the inventor reluctantly agreed to and once he had examined the machine to his own satisfaction Karl authorised the publication of his approval of the machine. For several years Bessler was visited by numerous people of varying status, scientists, ministers and royalty. Several official examinations were carried out and each time the examiners concluded that the inventor's claims were genuine.

Over several years Karl aged and it was decided that the inventor should leave the castle and he was granted accommodation in the nearby town of Karlshafen. Despite the strong circumstantial evidence that his machine was genuine, Bessler failed to secure a sale and after more than thirty years he died in poverty. His death came after he fell from a windmill he had been commissioned to build. The windmill was an interesting design using a vertical axle which allowed it to benefit from winds from any directions.

He had asked for a huge sum of money for the secret of his perpetual motion machine, £20,000 which was an amount only affordable by kings and princes, and although many were interested, none were prepared to agree to the terms of the deal. Bessler required that he be given the money and the buyer take the machine without viewing the internal workings. Those who sought to purchase the wheel, for that was the form the machine took, insisted that they see the secret mechanism before they parted with the money. Bessler feared that once the design was known the buyers could simply walk away knowing how to build his machine and he would get nothing for his trouble.

I became curious about the legend of Bessler’s Wheel, while still in my teens, and have spent most of my life researching the life of Johann Bessler (I’m now 75). I obtained copies of all his books and had them translated into English and self-published them, in the hope that either myself or someone else might solve the secret and present it to the world in this time of pollution, global warming and increasingly limited energy resources.

Not long after I was able to read the English translations of his books, I became convinced that Bessler had embedded a number of clues in his books.  These took the form of hints in the text, but also in a number of drawings he published.  Subsequently I found suggestions by the author that studying his books would reveal more information about his wheel.

For some ideas about Bessler’s code why not visit my web sites atwww.theorffyreuscode.com or see my work on his “Declaration of Faith” at http://www.orffyreus.net/

Also please view my video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BWVKtpuzn0
It gives a brief account both the legend and some more detail about some of the codes.

The problem of obtaining a fair reward for all his hard work was anticipated by Bessler and he took extraordinary measures to ensure that his secret was safe, but he encoded all the information needed to reconstruct the machine in a small number of books that he published. He implied that he was prepared to die without selling the secret and that he believed that posthumus acknowledgement was preferable to being robbed of his secret while he yet lived.

It has recently become clear that Bessler had a huge knowledge of the history of codes and adopted several completely different ones to disguise information within his publications. I have made considerable advances in deciphering his codes and I am confident that I have the complete design.

Johann Bessler published three books, and digital copies of these with English translations may be obtained from the links to the right of this blog. In addition there is a copy of his unpublished document containing some 141 drawings - and my own account of Bessler’s life is also available from the links. It is called "Perpetual Motion; An Ancient Mystery Solved?

Bessler's three published books are entitled "Grundlicher Bericht", "Apologia Poetica" and "Das Triumphirende...". I have called Bessler's collection of 141 drawings Maschinen Tractate, but it was originally found in the form of a number of loosely collected drawings of perpetual motion designs. Many of these have handwritten notes attached and I have published the best English translation of them that I was able to get. Bessler never published these drawings but clearly intended to do so at some point.

As I often say, the solution to this device is needed now.  Anything that might help cleanse the planet of pollution, green house gas emissions, by providing clean cheap alternative energy sources should encouraged in its discovery and development to counter global warming.

  1. Solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, etc., are already there since long and how much successful they are is anyone's guess... And, when BW joins this bandwagon the outcome is also not very difficult to understand...

BW has its own disadvantages... It is very heavy and may not be that efficient as it's cousins... The BW technology is outdated... It was to be popular 300 years back but missed... At the moment, we can't accurately predict its economic viability or popularity... people may not feel it to be futuristic or very fashionable to have it installed in their vicinity... The popularity of solar power may downsize BW development... BW has to first overcome the burden of its own counter-weights before it can make any surplus energy contribution... And, this is not going to be an easy task as being visualized by us now...

It is going to be bulky too... To produce a reasonable amount of usable power the machine would need to be scaled up considerably... BW would be expected to directly produce electricity and this in result would require it to be accordingly built or have it arranged in series which requires elaborate landspace for its installation whether on the surface or subterrain... And this may not be economically feasible considering the increasing real estate rates... All these reasons may have a limiting effect on its development and progress...

And, the saddest thing is that it still remains the mystery it was without we having any idea of how it works... Perhaps, the actual inventor is partly to be blamed for all this...

And, finally, it is all the more mystifying to see the non-belief and non-cooperation being exhibited by the scientists, physicists or the government authorities for that matter...

    1. "It is very heavy and may not be that efficient as it's cousins"
Well, no. If it actually works, the efficiency is infinitely higher than any other source of power, since it doesn't consume energy to deliver energy. But, of course, it doesn't work, so there's that..

You must be right, SK. Trying to use BW power is probably a total waste of time and anyone thinking about doing that must have some sort of mental problem. Thanks for waking us all up to that reality! Well, I guess JC might as well just close down this blog since nothing of any value will ever come from it.

"...it still remains the mystery it was without we having any idea of how it works..."

Shouldn't you be saying that it is YOU who doesn't have any idea of how the BW works? Amazing how you feel free to speak for everyone doing BW research! Have they elected you as their official spokesperson? If so, no one told me about it.

  3. Wow! I came across this blogg sort of by accident, and I'm surprised to see there are still people in this world who believe perpetual motion machines is a possibility. They are not.

    1. Gus, you desperately need to educate yourself about the details of the Bessler story. If you do, then you will quickly change your opinion about the impossibility of perpetual motion as all of us here eventually did.

    3. Proof! they don't need proof. They have no need to prove that he was a fraud, it is our task to prove that he wasn't.

    4. Anyone who wants to prove that Bessler was a cheat, and anyone who wants to prove that Bessler was not a cheat, are all wrong. You shouldn't prove anything, but you should get down to real work and not complain. Everything had been proven much earlier by Bessler himself. The one who wants to prove the already proven acts illogically because he is petty and lacks faith in the revealed truth. See how many drawings you have done, research on the wheel and how much you have expanded your own knowledge, it testifies to a real explorer. Nobody said it would be easy considering you don't know what to refer to. This is the job of the explorer. You can fight for sophisticated words, but do they push things forward?

    5. “Prove It!”

To prove Bessler built the real thing is not that difficult, at least theoretically, if one knows were to look. But as we all know there are some problems. One of them is that there are kooks on both sides of the isle, Chasers believe he did it (and rightly so) but can’t prove it, BigWigs (a.k.a scientist, better kind of kooks) they know it is impossible and they think they proved it, well they wrong. Both sides, while referring to Perpetual Motion they actually mean Over Unity, some chasers are aware of it (this are kooks), some are not, no BigWig is. All evidence they show, is against OU not PM. Now what fallows it is not an advice, but something to reflect on.
Drop the word “machine” from the name PM, by definition all machines no matter how small require outside source of energy to function, PM does not (neither Bessler’s wheels did). Therefore it is not a machine, which implies also stop looking for source of energy to “power” PM, it does not exist. Stop that never ending debate: is gravity force or energy, it is what it is, and it will be what it is after you determine what it is, you can’t use it now, you will not be able to use it then. All one needs is… well this is as far as I can go. For obvious reasons I can’t tell you any more. At least not now.
      Have nice day.

    7. To Gus: If you read this. Please explain what is a perpetual motion machine.
I don't understand the term and why it is impossible.
maybe it is the machine part I don't understand what is a machine.
I am a little confused on motion what is motion?
I know what perpetual is so I don't need that explained.
And the only other is impossible is a machine impossible?
      is motion impossible?
perpetual is what has been around forever so that's totally possible.
Please tell me why a machine or motion may be impossible.
      Thanks Tom Wlazlak
