Bessler’s Wheel and the Orffyreus Code.

Apologies for putting this up again only I seem to have caught a cold, not  covivid-19 hopefully, and I’m not up to writing a blog.    I’ll return to the blog ASAP.       JC

The Legend of Johann Bessler’s Perpetual Motion Machine.

The Truth Behind the Legend of Bessler’s Wheel and the Orffyrean Code

On 6th June, 1712, in Germany, Johann Bessler (also known by his pseudonym, Orffyreus) announced that after many years of failure, he had succeeded in designing and building a perpetual motion machine.  For more than fourteen years he exhibited his machine and allowed people to thoroughly examine it.  Following advice from the famous scientist, Gottfried Leibniz, he devised a number of demonstrations and tests designed to prove the validity of his machine without giving away the secret of its design.

Karl the Landgrave of Hesse permitted Bessler to live, work and exhibit his machine at the prince's castle of Weissenstein.  Karl was a man of unimpeachable reputation and he insisted on being allowed to verify the inventor's claims before he allowed Bessler to take up residence  This the inventor reluctantly agreed to and once he had examined the machine to his own satisfaction Karl authorised the  publication of his approval of the machine.  For several years Bessler was visited by numerous people of varying status, scientists, ministers and royalty as well as hundreds of  local inhabitants.  Several official examinations were carried out and each time the examiners concluded that the inventor's claims were genuine.

Over the years Karl’s health began to deteriorate and his sons decided that it was time for the inventor to leave the castle and he was given five years salary and accommodation in the nearby town of Karlshaven. Despite the strong circumstantial evidence that his machine was genuine, Bessler failed to secure a sale and after more than thirty years he died in poverty.  His death came after he fell from a windmill he had been commissioned to build.  The windmill was an interesting design using a vertical axle which allowed it to benefit from winds from any directions.

He had asked for a huge sum of money for the secret of his perpetual motion machine, £20,000 which was an amount only affordable by kings and princes, and it’s no coincidence that this sum matched that being offered by the British Government as a reward for the invention of a way to establish a ships longitudinal position  at sea.  Bessler clearly believed his invention was equal in value.  Many people were interested in Bessler’s wheel, but none were prepared to agree to the terms of the deal. Bessler required that he be given the money and the buyer take the machine without viewing the internal workings.  Those who sought to purchase the wheel, for that was the form the machine took, insisted that they see the secret mechanism before they parted with the money. Bessler feared that once the design was known the buyers could simply walk away knowing how to build his machine and he would get nothing for his trouble.  He said that a bag of money should be put on the table and the buyer could take the wheel there and then.  He swore that if he was found cheating he should be beheaded, a not unlikely result if he was found to be a fraud and deceiving his ruler.

I became curious about the legend of Bessler’s Wheel, while still in my teens, and have spent most of my life researching the life of Johann Bessler (I’m now 74).  I obtained copies of all his books and had them translated into English and self-published them, in the hope that either myself or someone else might solve the secret and present it to the world in this time of pollution, global warming and increasingly limited energy resources.
This problem of acceptance by his potential buyers was anticipated by Bessler and he took extraordinary measures to ensure that his secret was safe, but he encoded all the information needed to reconstruct the machine in a small number of books that he published. He implied that he was prepared to die without selling the secret and that he believed that post humus acknowledgement was preferable to being robbed of his secret while he yet lived.

It has recently become clear that Bessler had a huge knowledge of the history of codes and adopted several completely different ones to disguise information within his publications.  I have made considerable advances in deciphering his codes and I am cautiously optimistic that I have the complete design.

Johann Bessler published three books, and digital copies of these with English translations may be obtained from the links to the right of this blog.  In addition there is a copy of his unpublished document containing some 141 drawings, his account of the search for perpetual motion - and my own account of Bessler’s life is also available from the links.  It is called "Perpetual Motion; An Ancient Mystery Solved?"

Bessler's three published books are entitled "Grundlicher Bericht", "Apologia Poetica" and "Das Triumphirende...". I have called Bessler's collection of 141 drawings his Maschinen Tractate, but it was originally found in the form of a number of loosely collected drawings of perpetual motion designs. Many of these have handwritten notes attached and I have published the best English translation of them that I was able to get. Bessler never published these drawings but clearly intended to do so at some

I and thousands of others around the world believe that Johann Bessler’s claim to have designed and built a perpetual motion machine, or a continuously rotating device enabled purely by gravity, was genuine.  The circumstantial evidence is compelling.  This device if reconstructed now, could potentially provide cheap clean electricity, and by reducing the need for fossil fuels, provide a huge step forward in reducing carbon emissions in a very short time.

  2. Maybe you should just do like you been doing and post a new blog topic every Sunday. But, don't put a limit on the past blog's comments of just 200 or so. Sometimes late comers to that past blog might have some last minute comments they feel the need to make and it gives them a chance if that blog isn't locked down like you been doing. You've had past blogs that only got 5 comments to them and lately they been reaching 200 or more. Just let the traffic here decide what's too long. I don't think they will go much farther then 220 maybe at most before everyone starts commenting on the new blog. If someone don't like a past blog that's too long for him he can just scan through it or just read the new blog that's still growing.

  3. Well, here it is, Besslers’s MT-21 in Algodoo. As mentioned in the previous blog.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUpqhyQSFKA

I learned a lot from building this. I did not expect that when I downloaded it just a few days ago. You need to be a little creative though combining and positioning the shapes. There are not that many features and basically it is no harder than a simple game. You just need a little practice. Again, give it a try and build a simple pendulum. There’s a tutorial on YouTube how to do that. Then try to connect them in a wheel. It is great fun.

    @Suresh:
I’m sorry to read that I am misleading and affecting your mission adversely with my "cartoons". I was not aware of that and was merely trying to help everyone by pointing out a cheap and simple way to test their ideas. If this cuts the legs out from under your chair, it is totally unintentional and nothing more than an unfortunate side effect. Again, I am sorry, but sometimes shit happens.

Don't mind SK. He's just envious that you are simming and have something interesting to show us here unlike him with his various vague clues about clubs and pillars that he thinks has the secret of B's wheels in them but doesn't. Keep those sims coming because it looks like you are getting better and better at making them. As for that model of MT 21 you made, wonder what would happen if you added a spring between each lever and the wheel rim that would help push the lever toward the paddles in the center when a lever got to around the 7:30 to 8:00 location?

    3. There's a more cheaper and simpler way to test an idea... mental way... thought experiment ing...

Since the bessler secret mechanism is also very simple it can thought out by ruling out the odds...

It is when you consider it to be very complicated that you get the need for such tools as Algodo... through which still it would be unreachable...

Why not we have it the natural way... the bessler way... you don't want to miss all the scenes enroute, do you?...

  4. Algodo has been highlighted several times in the past 10 years...and, it has led us nowhere so far... people have been trying...
I would like to know if Algodo can really give us any insight into the unique bessler mechanism...
Can it help us understand what Karl saw inside...
Since the bessler's secret design is a matter of unique action of weights involving critical measurements that is not seen in any other machinery or technology... will we come to know that special lever-weight design and that unique arrangement through Algodo...
Only an out of the box thinking looks promising IMO... Algodo can also deny us that thrill which a natural investigating efforts yield... and this feeling of achievement is of Paramount important to a would be inventor...
Does Algodo have any previous record of achievement of this dimension to its credit...
Great historical ground breaking inventions/discoveries are a result of genius efforts by highly outstanding persons...as we can see...
Bessler wheel recreation is not less a task if you ask me...it will take great mental efforts plus lots and lots of common sense...
I agree Algodo it a great tool and may be very time saving in ruling out the 141 drawings one by one...
But does it have the ability to cast a discerning eye on all the 141 drawings and finally make out the bessler design which is not an easy task and which is like finding a needle in a haystack...

No, but if we happen to find what we think is that "unique Bessler mechanism" based on the clues that we have, then Algodoo can let us know if it works or not. It doesn't do the thinking for us. We still have to do that.

    2. When we form that right mechanism in our mind
You really wouldn't need Algodo to tell us that IT is the one... you will natural be sure that you have hit it... instantly...

    3. There are thousands of pm wheel designs out there that look so simple that they have to work. But when someone builds one of them or simulates it they are useless. When it comes to OOB wheels there is no such thing as being "natural sure" of any of them working. You got to build or sim it to really be sure.

      Delete
    4. Yes, there are many out there that look simple but when you sim they are useless...
      I agree with this...
This happens most of the time... that is until you hit the right one...and this cud take days, even years...
It is not wise to build or sim all that appears in thought...
It is Archimedes suddenly realizing it the moment he steps in into the bathtub...
That's the feeling to look for...laymen won't understand all this...
      Its the eureka moment...
Suppose you tie a rope to a branch of a tree on a mountain and stand at a distance holding that rope you don't have to build or sim to confirm that you will successfully start swinging if you jump...you will know for sure that it will work...
In the case of Bessler wheel it is first necessary to find out what Technic is the best to raise the weights effortlessly...
This can take hours and hours of rummaging the thoughts to arrive at that promising one...

  9. My point is why test it out in Algodo...
Why not rule out it out in mind... thoughts are faster in this regard...
Why a simple thing like this is not being understood?...
I will give you an analogy...
The Sunday class is the same...
    The teacher is the same...
    The message is the same...
But the level of understanding of the students varies...
    Some understand a little...
    Some a little more...
    Some a lot...
    Some everything...
    Some nothing...
And some even revolt or critisize...
Everyone is not a genius like bessler...
In bessler community we are running a race...
    In our own lanes...
Which doesn't have a common goal...
    The competition here is introverted...
Not extroverted...in an extroverted situation... It is either you or me...
You may buy a new bat but that doesn't make you a better batsman...
The key is in understanding it the right way...it is the competence level...
In the hands of a competent person when the right brush, the right canvas and the right painting is there and that is the unbeatable combination... the bessler competence...
When I say something like that you will it when you hit the jackpot and you don't need a simulation for that...it is not necessary that everyone will understand...
The competent person can make out things in a maze... you can make out a movement in the 141 drawings...
Sadly, what is happening is just argument...

You will go on and on arguing and when that doesn't work start trolling...

Every pm wheel chaser except Bessler out there so far who was convinced he was going to "hit the jackpot" eventually only hit a sh*tpot. Good sims made before building could have cut way down on the number of those he collected over the years so he wouldn't waste so much time with them. Time is limited and should not be wasted chasing after sh*tpots if you want to have the most chance of finding your jackpot during your life.

  10. Update. Latest figure is 300,000+ cases of corona virus infection worldwide so far with over 13,000 deaths, but that is only a fraction of actual cases because only a fraction of infected people ever get tested. Actual cases could be several millions by now and deaths in the hundreds of thousands because there was no autopsy done on the corpse of a victim in most poor countries to determine if he had the corona virus.

Iran only started to report a small number of deaths a few days ago and their hospital workers were warned not to give out any information. But recent top secret spy satellite photos of Iran show mass graves being dug all over the country.

Meanwhile hospitals are trying to figure out some way to put two or three patients on a single ventilator to keep them all alive. Hopefully that won't spread the virus back and forth from one patient to the other! I'd feel weird being on the same machine that someone who just died next to me is also still attached to!

Since last February the US stock market has lost $12 TRILLION USD in value. Funeral homes, however, are doing just fine financially.

    3. Let's all hope that John's cold isn't due to covid-19 and that he's over it as soon as possible.

I'm convinced that the real problem isn't covid-19 but weak human immune systems. Some people who get infected have no symptoms while others die on ventilators. Same virus only different immune systems involved. Some are very strong and others are very weak. The doctors don't seem to do much to strengthen a patient's immune system. They are all too busy treating symptoms to keep the patient alive and trying to figure out how to kill the virus.

Since this pandemic started I've increased my vitamin C intake up to an extra 500 mg per day in addition to the 60 mg in my daily multiple vitamin / mineral tablet. I recommend the chewable vitamin C tablets because they are easier on the mouth and stomach and have a nice orange flavor to them. You also need to make sure you are getting at least 15 mg of zinc per day which most daily multiple vitamin / mineral tablets have in them. If yours does not have that much then either switch to a brand that does or get separate 10 or 15 mg zinc tablets to take. Your total zinc intake by supplements should not exceed about 25 mg per day.

These two supplements will boost your immune system's strength and if a corona virus or any other virus manages to get inside of your body it will have about as much chance of surviving there as a snowflake in hell! But even with this extra protection don't go looking for trouble. Keep your distance from anyone that looks sick, do not touch you eyes, nose, or mouth when in public, and make sure you use hand sanitizer before re-entering your home so you don't put virus all over door knobs and handles to infect others.

According to what I'm seeing in the news we are still at the very beginning of this pandemic and things are going to get much worse in the coming weeks. It's still not too late to strengthen your immune system so that if you have to leave your home for food, doctor's appointments, or to go an essential job, you will have maximum protection.

    6. Update. A new and improved bail out plan for the collapsing US economy is being considered that will now cost US taxpayers $2 TRILLION USD. With it even those who did not pay any federal taxes for 2019 because their Gross Adjusted Taxable Income was too low (below $12,000 USD) will be getting several checks to help stimulate the economy. Those checks however will only be for about $600 USD each instead of the $1200 or more USD that the good hardworking actual taxpayers will get. One would think that the poorer someone is the more money he or she should be getting, but no that's now how it works in America. Better to keep the poor poor so they don't get used to a little living like the rich. That might make them all demand pay increases if and when they finally go back to work! The Democrats are blocking the bill in the US Senate because they claim it's really designed to help rich corporations, their top executives' salaries, and their investors more than it will help the average working stiff in those companies. What a surprise!

Meanwhile several US Senators are in hot water. Apparently they were caught selling off large quantities of their stocks just BEFORE the US stock market went off a cliff. What a coincidence! They made the sales using information about the coming pandemic and what would happen to business profits in the US because of efforts to contain its spread. They used information NOT yet available to the public to make sure they would have no financial losses when stock prices collapsed. Using such "inside information" for stock and bond trades is known as "insider trading" and is ILLEGAL. It should be interesting to see if any of them are ever prosecuted. People have to remember that in most countries, the US included, there are actually two sets of laws. One is for the poor and the other is for the rich. A rich person who is guilty is often treated far better and more leniently than a poor person who is innocent!

There could also be some sort of weird religious bigotry involved in this practice. Poor people are believed to be poor because they displease God and more naturally prone to doing immoral and criminal acts. They need to be more harshly punished to get them to clean up their acts. Otoh, the wealth of rich people is considered a sign that God favors them and so they need to either not punished at all or just given a little slap on the wrist. Most likely they only broke the law because some evil poor person tricked them into doing so! Punishing a rich person the same way a poor person is punished for the same crime might offend God. Better not risk that. Case against the rich person who "accidentally" diverted millions of USD of other people's money into his secret off shore bank accounts dismissed! Meanwhile throw that poor person who stole less of value into prison for twenty years to teach him and the rest of the poor a lesson! Who cares what effect that punishment will have on his marriage, children, or family. It's his own fault for stealing that loaf of bread from his local supermarket.

The head of the US Federal Reserve System recently said that he thinks US unemployment could reach 30% which will be higher than the 25% it was during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Let's all hope that's all it reaches!

    8. Update. One economist estimates that restoring the US economy to what it was before the COVID-19 Crash will require the US government to borrow and spend about another $5 trillion USD. Since the current US National Debt is $23.3 USD that will take it up to $28.3 trillion USD. With all of the other costs of operating the US government included, it won't be long before that debt is up to or over $30 trillion USD. That's an incredible amount of money to take from the incomes of future generations to pay back to those who lent the money to the US government.

The politicians are already trying to figure out how to make all of that debt just go away since it can never be paid off and will only keep increasing if the global financial system is not changed in a big way from what it currently is. One quick solution is a global depression that eliminates all forms of debt such as stocks, bonds, and loans by making them legally noncollectable. Everyone then starts from scratch with only the property they actually have in their possession as their wealth. In such a situation having as much gold, nonperishable food, and land to grow more food on as possible is a good thing as well as some weapons to protect it all from those who will try to steal it. Very similar to the kind of economic system they had back in Bessler's day!

Think it can't possibly happen? Actually, it's already happened in various countries during the 20th century, but never on a total global level before. Maybe this time it will!

Meanwhile, China has been buying up gold by the ton!

    12. Update. Yesterday Britain's Boris Johnson, their smarter version of Trump, closed down businesses there and he wants everyone to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary to leave their home in which case no gatherings of more than two people (family members excluded) is allowed. Meanwhile, the US' Trump is getting antsy and wants this corona virus business shutdown nonsense ended in the next two weeks at most! It does not matter to him that the epidemic experts say that's too early and will only allow the infection to flare up and spread faster as it goes on to kill millions of Americans. He's listening to the millionaire and billionaire business people buddies of his who chat with him nightly on the phone and are all complaining about how much money they are losing! Can't allow that to go on much longer. Fortunately, it is not Trump who is deciding whether or not a state's nonessential businesses are shut down. It's up to the state's governor and most are keeping things shut down until their experts tell them it's safe to open them again. Right now the US is about two weeks behind what's happening over in Italy and things over there right now are scary!

The first two versions of the US Congress's stimulus plan failed to pass. Democrats say the Republican version was intended to make the rich richer while the Republicans said the Democrat version was giving away too much to the poor. They're working on plan #3 now. Meanwhile, no Americans have seen any money from the US Treasury yet and their rents are coming due.

Interesting move by the US Federal Reserve yesterday too. They announced that they will offer unlimited buy back of their Treasury bonds. That allows companies holding them to redeem them directly from the US Treasure instead of having to dump them on the bond market which would then cause that market to crash like the stock market and wipe out the value of a lot of retirees' bond portfolios. Nothing more upsetting to a retiree than seeing the value of his bond portfolio crash.

My question is what are we supposed to do if we see a novel corona virus pandemic happening every year? Are we supposed to shut down the world economy every year to minimize the total number of fatalities? This is a question no one is even thinking about at the moment. So far there are millions of businesses that will never recover from the present pandemic. This thing is definitely going to change the way the world works and do so in a big way.

    13. Update. According to the news 110+ million Americans have now been told to stay home and only leave if absolutely necessary. That's about one third of the entire US' population!

Supposedly, the US government has tens of thousands of ventilators stashed away in storage, but don't want to release them to the states. The governors are up in arms about that saying they need them NOW! The government keeps telling them that they are making arrangements for private companies to start making the ventilators they need. But, that could take MONTHS during which thousands will die! There's going to be a real uproar if holding back on those ventilators results in a lot of Americans especially older ones dying off.

I'm dreading what this situation will look like in another two weeks with the number of infections doubling every 3 days! Two weeks is 21 days or 7 doublings. Do the math. 2x2x2x2x2x2x2 = 128 times more infections then we have now. Let's hope everyone staying shut up in their homes can reduce that number.

    16. Update. Finally some good news! The US Congress approved a $2 trillion USD "Corona Virus Economic Recovery Package" last night to save the US economy. That means nice fat $1200 USD Treasury checks will be on their way to American adults and you don't have to have paid any federal income taxes for 2019. They should all arrive before April 1st. You also get an extra $500 USD for each kid you have. There is a bit of a disappointment for small business owners though. Many of them which are one and two person operations won't be seeing anything to help with their business losses. The details are complicated, but will be explained to everyone in the letters soon to arrive.

The number of US citizens told to stay home is now HALF of the population or about 170 million people! We're still only at the beginning of the pandemic here and right now it's anybody's guess how high the peak number of people needing to be on ventilators to survive will be. We can only hope and pray that it doesn't exceed the total number of machines available because, if it does, those excess patients will die. Most likely if the number of patients needing a ventilator exceeds the maximum available machines, they will triage the patients with the oldest and sickest left to die while the younger ones get the machines. If that happens, expect all hell to break loose with our "healthcare" system in the US. Will we finally get government administered "Medicare for All" like the rest of the industrialized countries of the world have? Hell yes, that will be demanded by the population from the next President and Congress and they know it. The super rich are also dreading the BIG increase in their taxes that will be required to pay for it all. Many right now are even contemplating renouncing their US citizenship to avoid that coming hit on their incomes.

This pandemic is a "game changer" as they say. Who knows how long it will take for things to get back to normal again. Only a few weeks ago the US economy was said to be booming. Now we are on the verge of a total worldwide economic collapse! Amazing what a difference a few weeks can make.

    17. Update. There's been a few last minute changes to that "Corona Virus Economic Recovery Package". Apparently, they will only be sending $600 USD checks out to everyone, but will be sending them out biweekly. That's so they can cut them off at any time. There's also another glitch. It will take at least 3 more weeks before the first checks go out or direct deposits are made into people's checking accounts. Hope the landlords are understanding about the delay.

Hospital workers are bracing for the peak number of patients requiring machine ventilation to survive in the coming weeks. Still no accurate estimate on what that will be and how many will be dying because they won't get a machine to help their infected lungs keep breathing. Inventive types are looking for ways to make ventilators. Some Polish company just uploaded the data files for a 3D printed ventilator that they say they tested and which works effectively. Maybe we'll see the hospitals rapidly being equipped with them. Either that or they will have to have nurses taking turns squeezing the rubber bulbs on those manual ventilators that they use when they are transferring a ventilated patient from one room to another on a gurney!

Meanwhile, some expert just announced that by the end of today the US will have more corona virus cases than China now has!

Some hospitals plan to have refrigerated trucks parked outside to hold all of the corpses of those that died because they didn't have a ventilator to put them on!

I just heard that when you have serious corona virus symptoms that land you in a hospital's intensive care unit, the first thing they do is give you intravenous vitamin C! I'm going to start taking a 500 mg tablet every day like he recommends. Better safe than sorry.

  12. I don't think so. Bessler said that a motion and movement could be found in the MT's. SK says the same about a movement (swinging). Bessler said it would take a discerning mind. SK says the same ie. competence in mechanical matters. Bessler said he found it where everybody else had looked. SK says it's a simple mechanical arrangement enacted in a unique way. So far nothing new there. SK says you don't need any simulation to prove the mechanics once seen. Quite right, as Bessler didn't use a simulator so we don't have too either. Bessler had 10 years of thought experimenting and real builds behind him. SK has thought experiments but is going to start a build. His actual competency is unknown, as he hasn't shown any real builds, simulations, or given any detail of his theory. Clearly Bessler's mechanical OOB solution is mechanically counter-intuitive otherwise it would have been discovered by now. Competence is one thing and undue confidence another. Even if the solution is so simple why not simulate it, since Algodoo is free and the result confidential to yourself? Delusion is a place easy to get to and hard to escape from with no sanity checks and balances. A sim a start, though admittedly not essential.

If Bessler had simulation software available to him he would have immediately used it and then he might have found his working OOB wheel design in only 3 instead of 10 years. Anyone not using simulation nowadays is really only needlessly handicapping his efforts and delaying how long it will take him to find success if he's meant to find it at all. Unfortunately, this new approach to pm chasing won't guarantee anyone success. It will just help shift the odds a little in his favor.

Newton made some of his discoveries about gravity on his mother's farm during a period when Cambridge was shut down in 1667 because of an outbreak of the Black Plague in England and all of its students were sent home. The Great Plague of 1738 was another outbreak between 1738 and 1740 that affected large parts of eastern Europe. It's estimated that the epidemic likely killed over 50,000 people. Covid-2019 is actually mild compared to the death rate caused by the Black Plague which was made a lot worse by the poor sanitation back then.

India has officially had 425 cases and 8 deaths so far. But the pandemic is just starting to get underway around the world. The figures for all countries will be going up much higher in the coming weeks. Also, like Iran, a lot of governments are purposely under reporting their cases in an effort to make their countries look more hygienic than others and to help keep trade with the rest of the world from decreasing further by suggesting it's safer to trade with those countries with the lowest numbers of cases.

India is a crowded country like China where infectious diseases can spread rapidly and could be downplaying their actual cases and deaths. They could also not be adequately testing people for the virus. It's been noticed that when the number of tests are doubled, the number of cases detected also doubles! We really don't know how many tests most of the countries reporting figures have done. All of these figures could be very inaccurate.

    1. When those tribesmen out in the jungle die from COVID-19 everyone just dismisses it all as due to some evil spirit getting into them. They do have fear only they take care of it by protecting themselves and trying to cure the ill patient with various magic spells, powders, charms, and rituals provided, for a price, by their village's witch doctor. If these don't work and even more die, they eventually blame their witch doctor for being a fraud and promptly execute him. Primitive people have little tolerance for quacks!

In the civilized world when a patient dies from the virus, everyone blames the patient for not being more careful to wash his hands, avoid being in a crowd, etc. His doctor is considered a hero who tried to save him and will make more money the longer he tried before the patient finally died. Then a funeral home comes in to make its profit off of the "final expenses" of the "dear departed" at a time when his survivors are most vulnerable and likely to pay for a funeral that is grossly over priced. In the US right now, the average funeral costs over $8,000 dollars. Funeral homes want it all in advance of any preparation of and burial of the body which can lay in a freezer for months accumulating a storage fee until all of the money is paid or the survivors decide on a cheaper cremation which can still cost over $1,000 dollars. Making profits off of other family's tragedies is big business in the civilized world.

No it's not pm and Finsrud never says it is. He only calls it a kinetic sculpture. The track the ball rolls around on is constantly slightly dipped ahead of the moving ball and that's done by those long pendulums hanging down to the bottom of the pedestal base. The base has battery powered electromagnets hidden inside of it that attract permanent magnets in the pendulums to keep them swinging and the track above dipping. Don't be fooled by it. He has to replace the batteries that make it run every month or so. He's used it to attract attention for his studio and other artwork.

    6. I agree with Henry L's analysis. Here's a youtube video of Finsrud's "pm" machine. It has a lot of extra unnecessary moving part distractions on it to confuse a viewer, but the circular track is actually being made to very slightly precess solely by the three pendulum weights at the ends of the stiff metal rods hanging down to the base. Ignore the nonsense explanation of the narrator. Notice the base is made of brass. Why? That's so the fields from the hidden battery powered electromagnets under the base can reach the three pendulum weights and keep them swinging. If the base was steel then the electromagnets' fields would not be able to reach and affect the pendulum weights. How this was done is obvious to those who have seen a lot of hoaxed machines.

Yeah, sure… We should not believe that the pendulums are driven by permanent magnets. But we should believe that they are driven by electromagnets. Which is actually the same but then you need a,… “battery”.

Beautiful machine! But not true PM like Bessler wheels. It’s more like a cuckoo’s clock running on magnets. The see-saw balance is also nice but no true PM. You can’t lift 70 lbs with these devices. If you make them really BIG, then maybe you might. But it has to be really BIG.

For this kind of accuse, there need some physical evidence or any proof from the third party. Otherwise, any person who claims this kind of "things", without knowing the real background, will be like Anne Rose Mauersberger in Bessler's story.

      @"Kenonymous" 25 March 2020 at 13:01
Here is a link to explain brass magnetic properties. Brass has almost the same magnetic properties as copper or aluminum. But there is a "but ... ", see corresponding videos.
      https://terpconnect.umd.edu/~wbreslyn/magnets/is-brass-magnetic.html
Eddy currents are acting as a shield to magnetic field.
      http://g3rbj.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Eddy-Currents-final-2.pdf
Seems you already know, electricity and magnetic field are inseparable.
Now, put both changing electromagnetic field and brass together and you will get ... Eddy currents. And from that Eddy current, brass (or aluminum or copper) will come to induction heater ... and both them make tremendous energy loss in the energy input side. So batteries will not last even one day in this kind of energy lossy setup, rather a few minutes. Ok ... depends on batteries amount in the system, there need them a lot of them, to last 14 days.

      @All
For me, there is no difference what name someone like to use here or what kind of belives they carry. Different thinking only enriches our world and gives some "at first glance strange ideas" to get new clues to move on. But bringing just things out without any third-party proof, this will not work finally. What I mean by that: Making a working device is only one part of the picture, the second part must explain all with today's "scientific world words" with third party real-world proofs. Without that there is no any progress in our field. Machine maker will stay just a Machine maker ... with his own beliving.
Believe me, there are a lot of different and tons of proofs out here, to Bessler wheel. There just must find them. And Reidar F. machine belongs to one of them. There is more in his story then firstly can gasp ... a lot of positive, but also negative things. (this negative to not mean automatically something bad, if we learn something from this). We must learn from his effort something ... Because of that, I was bringing Reidar out here.

  25. Because many don't believe Ken's explanation of why HE thinks his wheel will work. That being that his wheel delivers asymmetric torque conditions causing it to accelerate to an operating RPM. Many believe continuous OOB is a requirement, or at the very least asymmetric torque, for a gravity PM wheel. However our own experiences suggest that his design has only symmetric torque potential. And if his sim shows otherwise, whatever the reason, it is not reflecting what a real world build of the same design would deliver. Ergo the sim and the explanation is erroneous and a misrepresentation. IMO.

AFAIK Ken B.'s design, which he always states is Bessler's design and not his, IS an OOB type wheel. You can see in his video that the COG of the wheel is always on the side going down and at about the same distance from the center of the axle. It has to have a more or less constant net torque as a result. But that torque is very low which fits in with Bessler saying the torque of his first 3 foot wheel was very low and it could only barely turn itself. I agree with Ken that the wheel Bessler showed on June 6th 1712 was a second larger more powerful version of his first prototype wheel. If an actual real build of that design he has will actually work is anyone's guess right now. But it sure looks like it should.

      Delete
    7. I'm also a Ken B wheel believer. It's really just a spring enhanced overbalanced wheel but has an interesting twist to it. Instead of just having the weight lever going from 9 to 10:30 lifted by the cords and springs of the weight levers ahead of it toward the descending side, that 9 o'clock weight lever gets an additional boost from the dropping weight lever going from 6 to 7:30. That must be how it can work. Nobody else tried this before as far as I know. If anybody hasn't seen his wheel video it's here:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nP7KY6_EAM

He recommends watching it full screen at HD or 720p and at 0.25 x normal speed to better see the lever motions. The wheel's diameter is 3.5 feet which means that the levers are each about 6 inches long.

  35. Hi Richard .. it is my opinion that Bessler's one-direction wheels had continuous imbalance i.e.1. were constantly OOB i.e.2. asymmetric torque was constantly produced. This surplus of overbalance or excess torque (which he called excess impetus, excess weight, and preponderance) from the mechanical embodiment and enactment of his PM Law, which I've scoped previously elsewhere. Therefore ANY design that does not have 'instant' torque from a standing start, in ANY position (such as was reported of B's.), is going to fail dismally i.e. be a false PM wheel with symmetric torque capabilities only. Unfortunately this includes MT 25 and ANY derivatives, and also includes parametric oscillators. UNLESS they have constant torque. IMO.

There are others at BW.com willing and able to discuss your ideas further, most likely. And help you learn and refine sim models (like Algodoo as a starter) as a self teaching aid, as previously suggested. They may well be more receptive and open to the ideas you have than I am able to be, for the reasons I have given. All The Best -f

  36. I just thought of this question: One of the people who were privileged to see and hear Bessler’s wheel said that at every turn of the wheel, (a weight could be heard gently hitting the side of the wheel). If one weight was only heard, then why did Bessler say that the weights worked in pairs? Were both weights hitting at the same time and therefore sounded like one weight was hitting?

    Just a thought...

    1. I think Bessler was really saying the weights could be considered to be arranged into pairs on opposite sides of the drum. The one on the ascending side was closer to the axle than the other on the descending side which was the one making a noise. That made the over balance. They were a pair but that does not mean they were mechanically connected together. They couldn't be because if they were there would have to be something near or through the axle. Bessler made a hole in the Merseburg drum cover so people could reach in and touch the axle. He would not do that if they could feel anything connecting the weights in the pair. We have to stop thinking the design he used looked like those hammermen toys. That's just another dead end approach, imo.

    2. IMO the very word connectedness should not be considered while building...it sort of creates confusion and people think of all types of cords all over making the wheel look not so simple...
I feel the internal mechanism is very simple and no inter connection is reqd as the levers are fitted on a common disk... connection already preexists...
What should happen is during every rotation the weights maintain their respective positions in a stable manner...due to various incidental forces created...
Karl didn't see a maze of cords inside, did he?...

    3. SK wrote "Karl didn't see a maze of cords inside, did he?..."

We don't know exactly what Karl saw. Bessler said his wheel required a Connectedness Principle. If anon 03:50 is right and there were no connections between the levers across the diameter of a drum, then the connections would have had to have been between neighboring levers as show in MT 9, 10, 11, 12, and 16 (MT 14 and 15 are excluded because they do show connections through the axle). That Ken B wheel requires 40 cords to work, but only 16 are actually necessary for coordinating the lever motions during drum rotation. The other 24 could be eliminated by just modifying the design a little. 16 cords for 8 levers is only 2 cords per lever and I don't think Karl would have thought them to be a "maze of cords". We have to remember that he collected various clocks and scientific instruments. He was used to seeing some very complicated ones and that is probably why he described what Bessler showed him as being so simple that a carpenter's boy could duplicate it after studying it for a while. Even Bessler said that when his design was finally revealed, people would say it wasn't worth all of the money he got for it!

      Delete
    4. Why can't we keep it as simple as possible...why cords at all... Springs can be employed and they can hold levers in place... You see a lot of action has to take place inside for producing the reqd motive power... What can go wrong during rotation is cords impairing the levers... cords won't last long... They can get mangled...it is pure raw strength of steel... just levers, weights and springs...
Connectedness need necessarily mean connection by cords...
All that banging and other scratching noises don't suggest involvement of cords...
Tell me, are cords employed in a Ferris wheel?...

      Delete
    5. If bessler really did use cords in his final wheels he wudnt be so dumb to reveal it openly in the drawings...
And, just because we notice cords in some of the drawings we can't conclude that his later wheels involved cord usage...
Remember that the wheels depicted in the drawings are failed attempts...

      Delete
    6. SK said "And, just because we notice cords in some of the drawings we can't conclude that his later wheels involved cord usage...Remember that the wheels depicted in the drawings are failed attempts..."

While it's true that none of the MT machines can work, maybe we can consider that he used cords because he wrote at the beginning of MT:

"... no illustration by itself contains a description of the motion; however, taking various illustrations together and combining them with a discerning mind, it will indeed be possible to look for a movement and, finally to find one in them."

That would suggest that his working OOB wheels could have used cords and also springs.

      Delete
    7. This is where we differ and this different approach can bring different results...so it is found that there is no compelling evidence to suggest that cords play a major role...
All of us cannot follow a similar pattern while discerning... what something is discerning to one may not be so to another...
So it can be finally realized that cords usage is an individual's choice altogether... now since you didn't succeed using cords then why try it without the cords... mentally of course?...

    11. This book had a lot of influence on Bessler. He had to use overhead compound pulley hoists so his wheels could lift heavy weights right from start up before they built up any angular momentum. This page gives us an idea of the kinds of pulley arrangements he would have been using like the ones in the middle of the right side of the page. They show compound pulleys with 8:1, 6:1, and 4:1 mechanical advantages:

After page 188 of the book, the pages with drawings on them are not numbered, they are tabbed.

The drawings are on page 232 in my viewer John. Tab VIII you will see in the upper right corner of the page.

I don't find anything significant there.

I think JC has forgotten my prophecy which can be called the "Sayer of Sooths 2029 Prophecy" and was intended to counter the "Mr. Lepard Spots 2029 Prophecy" which currently curses JC and prevents him from finding any success with his wheel design. Like MLS I delivered my prophecy last year. My prophecy says that JC will eventually accept KB's wheel design as the actual one Bessler used. He will then go on to make the first working reproduction of it and this will happen before the year 2029 is over.

Right now both prophecies unfortunately have the same chance of fulfillment. But only one can be fulfilled. One will bring him only frustrating and bitter failure but the other will bring him much success, praise, and fame. I'm praying that the second one prevails. I think he should also beginning carrying lucky talismans with him at all times. They are a powerful tool in combating bad prophecies and evil curses. Without that it will probably be all dismissed as just another no runner based on imaginary clues you found. You also run the risk of someone simming it and showing it's a no runner after you went to the trouble of doing the book.

This is a fact... bessler wheel investigation is unlike any other investgation... very typical and Most simply cannot comprehend it the way it should be...
There are so many different approaches and understanding of the mystery... amongst us...
We are not United in our views when it comes to the understanding of the internal mechanism...
For example, I understand it in a different way, SG's way is different, Ken understands it quite differently...

One thing is proved already beyond doubt... Ken's approach didn't yield the desired results despite tremendous efforts...he must have spent sleepless nights... not to speak of the expenses incurred by him thereby...

    Well, what really went wrong?...
This is something to do with the method of approach... either he didn't take off on the right track or faultered somewhere in the journey...or his entire outlook from the beginning wasn't correct...
I sometimes really feel sorry about it all...
Is it because he was very steadfast in his conviction and didn't heed to others advise?...
Is there anything we can learn from his failure?...
Are we also committing the same blunder?...
My heart goes all out to him sometimes because he is the one who kept us so informed about not only his progress but also new incite into the mystery... he promptly always gave us his opinion on every matter...I don't have words to describe his efforts...he is the most highly misunderstood person...

I am very sure about one thing... the internal mechanism is such that when you finally get it right in mind you will know for sure that it can't fail... even before you attempt to build the same... This point is not understood by either by Ken or JC sir or anybody else...
They feel that they can only ascertain that it is really the bessler wheel after it is built...

Bessler wheel design is the only one of its kind in the world...it is quite unique...it is very simple... what Karl described is very much correct...

Whenever JC sir insists "IF my wheel works..."
I always wonder why he uses that word IF...

Does it means he is not sure and is just gambling or taking a chance...

Why can't he be very firm and always assure us by using the word that IT Will definitely work?...

Well, I think I will never be able to convince anyone on this... It is going to remain that way...

Knowledge and belief are two different things, which you obviously confuse. Knowing that a wheel construction actually works is something you can only do if you have a physical model. Everything else is just belief that it works. Your excuses for not needing a physical model are just ridiculous. If you are not able to build the wheel yourself, why don't you have it built? If it's so simple, but you have two left hands and don't want to explain it to anyone who could build it for you, why don't you have it built in pieces by different people, which you then only have to put together? Without a physical model, you are just a pitiful blabbermouth who cannot be taken seriously. Even worse than Ken.

Secondly, I would request you to kindly give it a deeper look... for things appear different many times when all possibilities are taken into consideration...

You may have judged me in a haste by any chance...

I have some deeper understanding of the wheel in question... because, I am a bit odd person and others easily misunderstand me often...
If you are really concerned I would suggest you get into a deeper debate with me before finally dismissing my beliefs...or my findings...
Because, when you suppress something without completely weighing the pros and cons all the possibilities are lost...
A serious besslerian would go Greater lengths or that extra mile to unravel the truth...

Just imagine, tomorrow, what if I really produce a working wheel and prove it to you... will you give me the same treatment?...
I may have my own hurdles in not coming out with a prototype...
Did you try to find out what those obstacles are?...
You will feel sorry for me when you know it...

All pm builders are not the same... there are those that build and build till the end...and there are those that build and fail and give up... there are also those that know something but wait for the right moment to start the work...
BW internal parts need to be freshly created...not available in stores readymade...
You said many things with shallow thinking...
It is ok and I don't blame you... All people in this world are not besslerlike... bessler was different... remember, he built the real thing and still was called a fraud by many...it is not your fault dear... this very subject is like that...

In my case I approached a factory owner to make the parts and paid him All I had in advance... But to my bad luck, he happened to be more shrewd and clever and was more interested in learning the complete design...
Finally, I had to abandon the project after he swallowed my hard-earned little fortune...I am yet to get over it...
My life story is much more pathetic than I can explain...
But, I assure you all that I would be the last person to misguide anyone in this world...
Forgive me if stated something wrong here...

As I understand it all of Ken's books are selling okay. But he claims that his last book on Bessler's wheels has sold as many copies in its first year as his next best selling one (a book titled "Secrets of UFO Technology") did in its first three years! He says he's surprised that it is doing so well. One reason might be because he made more of an effort to promote it than he did with his other earlier books. His books tend to be very detailed treatments of subjects which unfortunately tend to have limited appeal for those just looking for some light reading material. You have to study one of Ken's books to get the most out of it. They're really meant for serious students of different subjects. It took me over a month of part time reading to make it through his Bessler book but I'm glad I made the effort. It made me realize how really little I knew about the wheels prior to reading it. It was a real eye opener and I can recommend it to anyone who actually wants to have a serious chance of building a working replica one of Bessler's wheels.

When Bessler was talking about (the upper weight), was he talking about the weight in the 12 O’clock position, or just any weight that’s above the horizontal plane?

    1. The way I interpret it is that he means the "outer" weight(s). So yes it would be the upper weight in the 12 O'clock position but it would be the bottom weight in the 6 O'clock position.

Since "The upper weight is not attached to an external mechanism, nor does it rely on external moving bodies", I think it is fixed to the drum which acts as a flywheel to store the energy produced by the "internal parts". Also some energy is used to keep the "internal parts" going.

Bessler: "... this upper weight incessantly exercises universal motion from which the essential constituent parts of the machine receive power and push."

That section of text is a translation of pages 18-21 of DT. The translation was done by Andrew Witter (a.k.a Ted of Chicago), but I'm not sure whether he ever translated the whole book. The translation is misleading and contains a number of mistakes, which I've repeatedly pointed out over the years. Mike Senior's translation in John's DT book is more accurate. For example:

    a) "(or lower cylinder)" - this should read as 'narrow cylinder'. 'Lower cylinder' misleads people to think there is an upper and lower cylinder, when this is just describing the outer appearance of the wheel as a disc or narrow cylinder.

    b) "The upper weight" - this is a mis-translation of 'Uberwicht' which refers to preponderant/overbalancing weight, and is therefore clearly misleading.

Those are the two main problems with that translation, but there are others also, and therefore it should not be used as a clue source. Please refer to Mike's/John's or my own instead.

    2. I think both Senior's and Witter's translations of "Uberwicht" could have been better. The word really refers to the CoM or center of mass of the active weights and their levers inside of the drum when they were driving the axle. When Bessler wrote in AP (page 348 in Collins version):

“My device runs according to “preponderance”, and turns everything else along with it. On one side it is heavy and full; on the other side empty and light, just as it should be. It must revolve through the principle of 'excess weight'.”

He was basically saying that the Uberwicht or CoM was located on one side, the descending side, of the axle center which makes that side of the drum "heavy and full" and not directly under or at the axle center as when a drum is in balance. Since the CoM is then not located on the other side, the ascending side, of the axle, that side and its half of the drum become "empty and light".

  49. Well, I got a little bit further today. I drilled the last of the holes, got the bushings put in place, got all my chains prepared, and now I’ll be working on making the mold for the cement weights. Progress is steady and moving along nicely.

I think I’ll have some Cheerios.

    1. A lot of pm chasers eat Cheerios. That's because each little piece looks like a wheel. As they float in a bowl of milk every once in a great while one will keep spinning. For most pm chasers that is the closest they will ever get to pm.
