LONDON Olympics 2012 - and my clues to be explained.

Many years ago,I used to be something of an athlete, and also did four London marathons, and I always hoped that one day the Olympics would be held somewhere closer to home and I would be able to attend some of the events.  This year it's happening right here in little old England and will I be attending? No.

I would love to be there but getting a seat is harder than winning the lottery. But anyway, I believe that the tickets only give you a four hour slot to watch the events you've chosen, so my dreams of sitting there all day have blown away.  No surprise, given the huge demand for seats.

But actually I shall be sitting at home watching on TV and I'll get a better view than any seat could give me - just the crowd atmosphere that will be missing, but I'll enjoy it where ever I am.

BTW, just received some emails asking if I will be explaining the clues at some point.  So yes, the clues I post will be referred to and listed again, closer to the publication day, and the relevance of each one will be explained.

  3. I know it is the way you prefer, but I really don't get why you are giving clues. This is not a game or something. I think you should just tell us what the mechanism of your wheel is; and let us give you feedback.

    1. You are right , this is not a game , there are sly people whom would like to patent the bessler wheel for themselves .

  4. Fair comment yellowson. I'll leave the remaining clues 'til I've tested the model and then share what I know.

I will be EAGERLY looking forward to ANY "tasty nut" clues you will be providing, especially with regards to those in the two DT portraits! If you are on the "right track", then I will know it VERY quickly!

  8. I have given more thought to the idea of posting further clues about my design in advance of any wider publication and it seems rather pointless - and it annoys some people, so I think it makes sense to save it all 'til I can share all of it. The model should be ready on or around the 6th June, Doug.

  9. Whoever claims to have the solution ought to hurry up and build it because even if you have the correct answer you not be able to claim priority by being the first.

  10. JC what I wanted to say is if you tell us about the mechanism, you may not need to build the whole model to see whether it'll work or not. I have an idea, it seems everyone is afraid of someone stealing their idea. May be we can do something like this; you may post it on a page where a copyright information pops up upon entering and asks us if we accept that the concept on the page belongs to the owner; and then we all can accept and make our comments about it.

Well, that will certainly escalate our excitement as 6/6/12 approaches and keep everything in one tidy location.

When discussing Bessler's clues, disagreement usually arises over the translations and interpretations that various mobilists attach to them. I am highly confident in my particular interpretations because they have all been tested by actual modeling of a wheel that uses them. More importantly, like gears in a clock movement, they all mesh perfectly with each other to form a self-consistent picture of what the internal mechanics of Bessler's wheels looked like.

No, I don't know EVERY minute detail such as the dimensions of the wooden pieces used for the two-directional drum's radial supports, whether the wood pieces were held together with glue, wooden dowels, nails, or screws (I suspect, however, that everything was simply glued together to speed the fabricaton of a wheel and make destroying it easier should the need arise!), or what material the interconnecting cords were made of. But, these are not really that important. What really counts is the design of his "magic" levers, their starting orientations at the beginning of a 45 degree interval of rotation, and the tension constants for the springs he used. Those factors, when correct, WILL lead to a WORKING OB PM gravity wheel.

  12. That sounds like a good idea yellowson and I looked into it.

There are websites which offer a means of establishing copyright priority, for a small fee, but other web sites seem to suggest that copyright is established when an original work is created, composed or written and fixed to a tangible medium such as paper, canvas, recording, a hard drive, on film, etc. I suppose someone else's hard drive could be construed as tangible but I'm not sure that is what is meant. More research is needed.

As I understand it, copyright is established at the instant that a work, either literary or artistic, is created in some sort of physical medium. Just having an idea is not enough. It MUST be recorded and, potentially, available to others for reading or viewing. This does not mean that the work has to be "published" because, in theory, the creator could invite people to his garage to view the work. Thus, as I write this comment, it is immediately copyrighted in the name of "technoguy" and, by checking the various server logs involved, it would be possible to verify that I, [real name withheld], had created it on a certain date.

The problem arises when someone else challenges one's copyright to something. That usually results in a court case and in that environment it will be necessary to PROVE who created the work first. IF that need arises, it is VERY convenient to have had the copyright recorded previously with some third party who can testify that, indeed, the work was created on a certain date by a certain author / artist. In the USA, the Office of Copyrights, for a fee of course, fulfills that function. However, it is certainly possible to defend one's copyright claims without ever having officially registered a work or openly published it. BUT, you had better have some way of proving the date of creation of your work in court, if necessary.

Johann Bessler, aka Orffyreus, and his Perpetual Motion Machine
